This test is most commonly used to check for anemia or to check the thickness of blood that may have increased due to certain therapies. Is most commonly part of a larger CBC panel but is also available as a single individual panel.
Low levels of hematocrit may indicate anemia, which can be brought on by numerous factors including disease, diet, or genetics. High levels of hematocrit may indicate lung disease, congenital heart disease or dehydration.
