Used to measure Growth Hormone production in the body.
Growth Hormone helps regulate the body’s metabolism, development and recovery process. It is often used to diagnose hypopituitarism (decreased or lacking pituitary hormone production).
Children: Used when puberty and/or growth and development are delayed.
Adults: Used when Fatigue, decreased bone density and dramatic lipid changes occur.
Low levels may indicate a growth hormone deficiency that requires treatment. If levels are high it may indicate a pituitary tumor; however, tumors can also cause a deficiency. Such tumors may also affect other thyroid derived hormones such as prolactin.
Growth Hormone levels can also be affected by various medications.
