The Amylase Isoenzyme test is used as an aid in diagnosing and monitoring acute pancreatitis.
High levels may indicate a problem affecting the pancrease. Accute pancreatitis will see levels increase by as much as 4 to 6 times the highest acceptable range. Chronic pancreatitis may see levels fluctuate between high and low. Low levels of amylase may indicate permanent damage to the pancreas.
